Atal Setu First Accident Video Caught On Dashcam: Car Loses Control, Collides With Divider And Flips

Less than two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), India's longest sea bridge connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, the structure experienced its first mishap on Sunday. The unfortunate incident was captured by a dashboard camera mounted on another vehicle.

The dashcam footage revealed a red car speeding, attempting to overtake other vehicles. The accelerating car then veered to the right, colliding with the barricade before flipping multiple times. The timestamp on the footage indicated that the accident occurred around 2:50 pm.

A case of reckless driving has been officially filed against the car's driver at the Nhava Sheva police station in Navi Mumbai. However, no casualties or major injuries were reported.

Since its inauguration on January 12, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link has consistently made headlines. Within a day of its opening, over 130 citations were issued to motorists for disregarding the "No Stopping" signs, despite visible warnings. Drivers were observed violating regulations by parking their vehicles for selfies and group photos, with some even climbing the steel fences to capture moments.

In another incident, an autorickshaw was spotted casually traversing the newly inaugurated sea bridge, despite the prohibition of three-wheelers and motorcycles. Photos of this unauthorized vehicle circulated widely on social media, prompting the Mumbai police to intervene. The autorickshaw's 24-year-old driver, Vijay Namdas, was booked for allegedly illegally entering the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. Namdas explained to the police that he took his autorickshaw for a joyride out of sheer excitement.

According to the traffic police, entry onto the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link is restricted for motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheeler tempos, autorickshaws, tractors, tractors with unladen trolleys, animal-drawn vehicles, and slow-moving vehicles.
