Ashadhi Ekadashi 2024: Special Trains In Operation; Check Routes And Timings

The Central Railway Ministry announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, that special trains are in operation to facilitate devotees travelling for Ashadi Ekadashi. The ministry advised passengers to check the timing of trains arriving and departing at Pandharpur.

ST Corporation Plans

On July 2, the ST Corporation announced plans to enhance transportation services for theAshadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage to Pandharpur. The corporation is deploying additional trains and buses to accommodate the surge in devotee traffic.

Special arrangements include maximising train availability across departments until Dasami. Additionally, the ST Corporation aims to maintain security and efficiency with 12 checkpoints along various routes to Pandharpur.

About Ashadhi Ekadashi

Ashadhi Ekadashi, also known as Devshayani Ekadashi, marks the beginning of Chaturmas, a sacred period for Hindus. Devotees, especially from the Varkari community, offer prayers to Lord Vitthal and Rukmini on this day.

This day holds significant reverence in Hinduism, particularly among Vaishnava Hindus who honour Lord Vishnu's annual resting period in Ksheera Sagara, the cosmic sea. Devotees observe the occasion by fasting and performing prayers. They often purchase deity idols for home worship, placing them on red cloth according to Vastu principles, and conduct worship rituals using brass lamps and puja trays to seek divine blessings.

Fasting on Devshayani Ekadashi is believed to purify sins. Devotees also take purifying baths in sacred rivers like the Ganga or use 'Gangajal' at home if unable to visit the river.

This time for spiritual reflection is underscored by teachings from Lord Brahma and Lord Krishna to King Yudhisthira of the Pandavas, emphasising that fasting with devotion on this day brings happiness, success, and peace in life.
