Ajit Pawar Death: Viral Social Media Clips Show Fire, Smoke, and Wreckage at Baramati Plane Crash Site

A Mumbai-Baramati charter plane crash landed at the runway threshold of Baramati airport on Tuesday morning, resulting in the death of five people on board, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar was on the aircraft at the time of the incident.

The crash occurred during an emergency landing attempt at around 9 am, roughly an hour after the plane departed from Mumbai. Visuals from the scene show flames, heavy smoke, and the charred remains of the aircraft, with emergency personnel rushing to rescue survivors.

Details of the aircraft that crashed in Baramati

A Learjet 45 aircraft (registration VT-SSK), operated by VSR, reportedly crash-landed at Baramati airport on Tuesday. Five people, including crew members, were onboard the aircraft.

According to preliminary information, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was travelling on the aircraft along with two other personnel, a personal security officer and an attendant, besides the pilot-in-command and first officer. According to a report by News18, Ajit Pawar's wife and son have been rushed to Baramati.

According to the DGCA, five people who were on board the chartered aircraft have lost their lives. Officials have not yet released the identities of the deceased. Several others sustained serious injuries and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals.

Sources said the aircraft attempted to land at the runway threshold when it lost control and crash landed, triggering a fire. Fire and emergency services rushed to the spot within minutes to contain the blaze and assist in evacuation efforts.

Ajit Pawar was reportedly travelling to Baramati to attend multiple public meetings ahead of local body elections. Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on his condition, and more details regarding his safety are awaited.

Security has been tightened in and around Baramati airport as aviation officials and investigators examine the wreckage. The exact cause of the emergency landing remains unclear at this stage.
