Airoli-Katai Naka Road Project Nears Completion: Here’s How It Will Help Your Commute

The Airoli-Katai Naka Road project, which is expected to ease the daily commute for motorists travelling from Airoli to Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, and Badlapur, is progressing rapidly, as reported by officials.

According to a Midday report, Phase I of the project involves the construction of a 3.43-kilometre road connecting Thane-Belapur Road to NH-4. The elevated portion of this road, which spans 0.935 km, includes three lanes in each direction.

Additionally, the project features twin tunnels measuring 1.68 kilometres, with four lanes in either direction. According to an official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the elevated section of the road is complete, and work on the tunnel section is progressing well, with 91.5 per cent of the tunnel work finished.

Phase I is expected to be completed by January 2026. Phase II, which consists of a 2.57-kilometre elevated link from Airoli bridge to Thane-Belapur Road, is also progressing swiftly. This link, which will feature three lanes in each direction, is being carried out by J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd. So far, 82 per cent of the work on Phase II has been completed, and it is expected to be finished by September 2025.

The Airoli-Katai Naka Road project, which began in November 2017, will span a total of 12.30 kilometres. Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion, especially during morning peak hours.

The project, including the 1.69-km-long twin-tube tunnels below Parsik Hill, will improve travel times for commuters heading towards Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath, and Badlapur. This infrastructure development is seen as a major step towards improving connectivity and easing traffic flow in the region.
