2024 Maharashtra Polls: Will Bharatshet Gogawale Retain His Popularity In Mahad?

As the Maharashtra Assembly elections approach, the Shiv Sena has seen a notable increase in support within the Ratnagiri, Raigad, and Sindhudurg districts, bolstered by backing from Mumbai and Marathwada. A number of Shiv Sena workers have been elected to the Assembly by the people of Konkan, showcasing the party's grassroots strength. Among these dedicated figures is Bharatshet Gogawale, a prominent name in the region's political landscape.

Gogawale's journey from the son of a farmer to a three-term MLA exemplifies a remarkable climb in the local political arena. He has effectively represented the Mahad constituency in Raigad district, gaining recognition for his solid rapport with local residents and his approachable demeanor. Gogawale has been a vocal supporter of Eknath Shinde, who recently led a rebellion against then-Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. After the 2019 Assembly elections, Thackeray ended the alliance with the BJP and allied with the Congress and NCP. Discussions about Gogawale receiving a ministerial position in Thackeray's cabinet did not materialize, leading to his current role as a party spokesperson. He has made the development of facilities in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area a priority, attracting major companies such as Aditya Birla, PepsiCo, Sudarshan Chemicals, and Piramal Pharma. The historic Raigad Fort, established by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj as the capital of Swarajya, has benefitted significantly from Gogawale's efforts. Through the Raigad Fort Authority, he has led projects aimed at enhancing visitor facilities. The road from Mahad to Raigad has been concretized, improving access to this pivotal site, and is anticipated to boost tourism and generate additional employment opportunities for local residents.
