Udyam Registration in India Sees Over 11 Lakh MSMEs Registered, Boosting Job Creation
Since July, over 11 lakh MSMEs have signed up on the Udyam Registration platform, according to the government. Among these, 3.72 lakh are in manufacturing, while 6.31 lakh belong to the service sector. Micro-enterprises make up 93.17%, with small and medium enterprises accounting for 5.62% and 1.21%, respectively.

The official report highlights that male entrepreneurs own 7.98 lakh enterprises, while female entrepreneurs own 1.73 lakh. Additionally, divyangjan entrepreneurs own 11,188 enterprises. The registered units have collectively provided jobs to 1,01,03,512 individuals, showcasing the significant employment impact of these enterprises.
The top five sectors for Udyam registrations include food products, textiles, apparel, fabricated metal products, and machinery & equipment. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Gujarat are the states with the highest number of registrations on the platform.
Transitional Registration Provisions
Until 31 March 2021, businesses can register on the system without a PAN or GST number as a temporary measure. This transitional arrangement aims to facilitate easier registration for enterprises during this period.
The Udyam Registration initiative has seen substantial participation from micro-enterprises and has significantly contributed to job creation across various sectors in India.
