SIDBI Collaborates with Meghalaya Government to Enhance MSME Growth and Support Local Enterprises

The Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has partnered with the Meghalaya government to enhance the environment for small and medium enterprises. This collaboration involves a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Meghalaya Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation Ltd (MiDFC) to boost the MSME sector in the region, according to a SIDBI release.

SIDBI and Meghalaya Partner for MSME Growth

SIDBI, as India's main financial institution for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), will work closely with the state government under this MoU. The aim is to foster the growth of the MSME ecosystem in Meghalaya. This partnership will focus on several key areas to support local businesses and entrepreneurs.

The MoU outlines broad objectives, including promoting entrepreneurship within the state. It also aims to develop MSME clusters and build the capacity of NGOs, development organisations, and MSMEs. Additionally, it will support and highlight replicable livelihood projects that align with state priorities.

Expanding digital services for MSMEs in Meghalaya is another focus area. The MoU plans to map state-specific livelihood opportunities through expert consultants. It also extends SIDBI's promotional and developmental initiatives within the state to further aid local enterprises.

To strengthen MSMEs, the agreement includes using online platforms like PSB 59, Mitra portals, GeMS, and TReDS. These platforms will help build MSME capacity. Initiatives such as business information and counselling centres for micro-enterprises are also part of this effort.

Satya Venkata Rao, Deputy Managing Director of SIDBI, highlighted that the agency is actively engaging in various developmental activities. These efforts aim to benefit artisans and MSMEs by promoting enterprises, livelihoods, and skill development in Meghalaya.

Target Segments and Financial Support

Rao mentioned that priority segments include school dropouts, skilled but unemployed individuals, those needing skills, migrants during COVID-19, and underserved groups. He encouraged the state government to utilise low-cost finance available through SIDBI's Cluster Development Fund (SCDF) for developing MSME infrastructure.

This collaboration between SIDBI and the Meghalaya government aims to create a robust support system for small businesses. By focusing on entrepreneurship, digital expansion, and targeted financial assistance, it seeks to empower local enterprises and drive economic growth in the region.
