Suhas Shetty Murder: Tension Grips Mangaluru, Prohibitory Orders Imposed Till May 6

The Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has enforced prohibitory orders across city limits from May 2 to May 6 to maintain law and order following the murder of Bajrang Dal activist Suhas Shetty in Bajpe.

According to an official notification issued by City Police Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate Anupam Agrawal, the restrictions are in effect from 6 am on May 2 and will continue until 6 am on May 6. The curbs have been imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), citing concerns over public peace and potential disturbances.

Suhas Shetty Murder Tension Grips Mangaluru Prohibitory Orders Imposed Till May 6

The move comes after Suhas Shetty was brutally killed by unidentified assailants on May 1 within the Bajpe police station limits. The situation in Mangaluru remains tense, and authorities fear the incident could escalate into a communal issue, prompting the imposition of stringent precautionary measures.

Under the prohibitory orders, all forms of public gatherings, processions, and slogan-shouting in public places are strictly banned. The circulation or display of provocative posters, images, or social media content that could incite unrest or offend public morality is also prohibited. Additionally, the use of loudspeakers, musical events, and inflammatory speeches is not allowed during this period.

However, the order exempts official government functions, marriage ceremonies, funeral processions, and pre-approved religious events.

Police officials have been instructed to ensure strict enforcement of these directives. Security has been heightened across the city to prevent any untoward incidents during the enforcement period.

In response to the incident, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R. Hitendra has arrived in Mangaluru to oversee the situation.

Hindu Organisations Call for Dakshina Kannada Bandh

Hindu organisations have strongly condemned the murder and have called for a voluntary bandh across Dakshina Kannada district on May 2. Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell urged Hindu communities to voluntarily shut down businesses, public transport, and services as a mark of protest.
