Yogi Government Clears Key Hurdle for ESIC Hospital in Gorakhpur, Land Subsidy Approved

The ESIC hospital project in Gorakhpur advances as subsidised land is approved, enabling construction on a five-acre site in Kalesar. With a 100-bed capacity and a Rs 183 crore budget, the facility aims to serve over 80,000 workers and around 300,000 family members across ten districts.

Employees insured with ESIC in and around Gorakhpur are closer to a dedicated 100-bed ESIC hospital, as the land subsidy issue moves ahead. The Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority board has cleared subsidised land for the project, and a reminder has reached the Uttar Pradesh government.

The planned hospital will come up in Kalesar, within the GIDA industrial area, on a five-acre plot. Once land transfer is cleared by the state, Employee State Insurance Corporation can start work on construction, backed by an already-approved project budget.

The ESIC hospital in Gorakhpur is designed to support workers from ten nearby districts. More than 80,000 registered employees and about three lakh family members are expected to use its services. A budget of Rs 183 crore is sanctioned, with CPWD responsible for the main building, estimated at about Rs 150 crore.

ESIC hospital demand and workers’ healthcare issues

Delays in treatment for ESIC-registered employees across the Gorakhpur region highlighted the demand for this hospital. Thousands faced travel and waiting hurdles due to limited local ESIC health facilities. Hindi daily 'Hindustan’ recently ran a campaign titled “When will the ESIC hospital be built?”, which detailed these problems and placed pressure on authorities.

Officials in GIDA took note of these reports and began pushing the land process. Along with earlier communication from the divisional commissioner, GIDA has now sent a formal reminder to the state government. This step seeks final permission to provide land on subsidy for the ESIC hospital.

GIDA’s Additional Chief Executive Officer Ram Prakash said, “Giving top priority to the health of workers, the GIDA Board is ready to allot land to ESIC at the rate of 2,000 square metres. Approval has already been granted by the GIDA Board. A reminder letter has been sent to the government, and once permission is received, the formalities for transferring the land will be completed.”

Once the state clears the subsidised allotment, land transfer paperwork will proceed, removing the last major hurdle. With funding sanctioned and location decided in Kalesar, the ESIC hospital project in Gorakhpur now depends mainly on this administrative approval to move from planning to construction.
