UP: Woman slips into coma after being hit by Maneka Gandhi's convoy

Pilibhit, June 22: A 45-year-old-woman is battling for her life after being allegedly hit by the Union Cabinet Minister for Women & Child Development Maneka Gandhi's convoy in Tah Pauta village on Bankati Road in Pilibhit.

According to TOI report, the woman, identified as Mango Devi, sustained severe head injuries and has slipped into coma. She is being treated at the district government hospital in Pilibhit.

According to officials, the incident happened on Saturday, June 20 evening around 7.30 pm.

Her 18-year-old son, Babu Ram said that he and his elder brother Anil Kumar, filed a written complaint at the Neuria police station on Sunday, but they have not lodged an FIR.

While talking to TOI, Babu Ram said that he was returning home by motorcycle with his mother from Bilgavan village. At Tah Pauta village, he stopped by the side of the road as Maneka Gandhi's convoy was passing through that side.

He was quoted saying as, "the read of my bike was hit by the second car in the fleet, which was following the car carrying Maneka Gandhi."

The impact was so huge that his mother fell on the road and sustained severe head injuries, following which she was taken to the hospital.

A medical officer at the hospital said that the condition of woman is critical.

Meanwhile, Ranjit Singh, the PRO to Maneka Gandhi told TOI that the "woman was injured when her son lost control of the motorcycle."

He also said, "We are ready to provide the best possible medical assistance to Mango Devi to protect her life."
