UP Police To Get Over 60,000 New Constables on April 20, First Batch Trained Under New Criminal Laws

The Uttar Pradesh Police is set to induct more than 60,000 newly trained constables on April 20, as recruits across the state complete their nine-month training and participate in passing out parades at 112 training centres. This batch is being seen as a landmark one because it is the first in the force to receive dedicated training under the three new criminal laws that came into effect from July 1, 2024.

Uttar Pradesh Police is inducting 60,244 constables on April 20, 2025, marking the first batch trained entirely under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, effective July 1, 2024.

Appointment letters were issued in June 2025, institutional training began in July

Under the UP Police Recruitment Examination 2023, a total of 60,244 candidates selected for constable posts were issued appointment letters on June 15, 2025. After this, they underwent one month of district-level training before being sent to various training centres across the state from July 21, 2025 for formal institutional instruction.

In Moradabad district alone, around 5,500 recruits were sent for training at six centres, including the Police Line RTC, PTC, PTS and the 23rd, 9th and 24th battalions of the PAC. Over the next nine months, they were trained in both indoor and outdoor subjects, with equal emphasis placed on physical fitness and mental resilience.

Recruits to begin passing out parade rehearsals from April 10

With the training cycle now complete, all recruits will move into the final phase of preparation for the passing out parade. Their indoor examinations were conducted from March 17 to March 25, followed by outdoor subject tests between March 26 and April 8. The oral examination, or interview round, was completed on April 9.

From April 10 onwards, the recruits will begin rehearsals for the convocation parade. The formal passing out parade is scheduled for April 20, after which they will be sent to their allotted districts for deployment.

Police training nodal officer and SP Traffic Subhash Chandra Gangwar said, "The passing out parade (convocation parade) will now be held on April 20. Preparations for it have already begun. From April 10, all recruits will start preparing for the convocation parade. After the parade on April 20, they will be sent to the districts where they have been posted."

Why this batch is important for UP Police

This batch is especially significant because it is the first group of UP Police constables to be trained entirely under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), the three new criminal laws that replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act (IEA) from July 1, 2024.

Until now, most serving police personnel had been trained under the old legal framework. Since several provisions have been revised under the new laws, with some sections redefined and new categories of offences introduced, officers trained under the older system have often faced technical difficulties while handling field-level work under the updated legal structure.

That is why the April 20 passing out batch is being viewed as a crucial milestone. Since these constables have been trained directly under the new criminal law framework, they are expected to adapt more smoothly in the field, improve procedural accuracy, and make policing more efficient from the outset.

Around 2,000 women recruits among 5,500 trainees in Moradabad

In Moradabad, the training programme has also stood out because of the large participation of women recruits. Out of the 5,500 trainees across the district's six training centres, around 2,000 are women constables. Their examinations have already been completed, and they are now preparing for the final parade before deployment.

SP Crime and training nodal officer Subhash Chandra Gangwar said, "Training of around 5,500 recruits, including nearly 2,000 women recruits, has been completed at six training centres in Moradabad district. Their examinations have also been concluded. This is the first batch of constables to have undergone training after the implementation of all three new laws. They have been trained entirely under the new legal framework. Their induction will make work easier. The passing out parade of these recruits is proposed for April 20, and rehearsals for it will begin from April 10."
