UP CM Yogi Adityanath Launches Winter Relief Drive in Gorakhpur

With the onset of the biting coldwave and the winter season settling in across Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has initiated a robust winter relief effort, personally inspecting 'rain basera' (night shelters) in Gorakhpur and directing local bodies to ensure comprehensive support for the state's needy population.

On Wednesday, the Chief Minister visited two night shelters in Gorakhpur, where he interacted with the residents and personally distributed blankets, marking a compassionate start to the state's cold weather response. His visit was part of a larger directive to ensure that all arrangements are fully functional and that no one is left exposed to the severe cold.

Ensuring Full Capacity and Adequate Resources
CM Adityanath emphasized that adequate funds have already been allocated to ensure 'rain basera' across Uttar Pradesh operate at their full capacity. He stressed the importance of these shelters in providing a safe haven from the coldwave for the homeless and vulnerable.

"Coldwave has begun," the Chief Minister stated, highlighting the urgency of the situation. "Keeping this in mind, adequate funds have been allocated to ensure that 'rain basera' across the state operate at full capacity, and that every tehsil and local body can provide woollen clothes and blankets to the needy." He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to ensuring that no one has to sleep on footpaths during the harsh winter nights.

Directives for Local Bodies
In a crucial move to decentralize and enhance the relief efforts, CM Adityanath has instructed all panchayats and local bodies to make arrangements for bonfires in public places. This directive aims to provide immediate relief from the dipping temperatures, especially in areas where night shelters might be inaccessible or for those still outdoors.

The Chief Minister highlighted the scale of the operation in his home district, noting that in Gorakhpur alone, 14 'rain basera' are being managed by the Nagar Nigam, collectively capable of sheltering between 700 to 1,000 needy individuals. He assured the public that sufficient funds have been provided to every district to procure and distribute blankets and woollen clothing, reinforcing the government's aim to protect every citizen from the cold.

Focus on Public Engagement
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister had held his customary 'Janta Darshan' at the Gorakhnath Temple premises in Gorakhpur. This public outreach event saw him meet with people from various parts of the district to hear their grievances. He reviewed written applications, assured citizens of timely resolution and assistance, and encouraged them to stay engaged in community development activities. CM Adityanath also took time to interact warmly with the children present at the venue, underscoring a humane approach to governance alongside the execution of his winter relief mandate.
