Rising Tensions Within Uttar Pradesh BJP Government After Lok Sabha Elections

Reports from the BJP-led NDA government in Uttar Pradesh indicate significant unease post-Lok Sabha elections. A recent letter from Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya highlights this tension.

Maurya has requested information from the Appointment and Personnel Department, overseen by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The request focuses on adherence to reservation rules.

Sources suggest Maurya's letter was written last year, but he has now sent a "reminder." This letter gains importance as Anupriya Patel, leader of BJP ally Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Union Minister, sent a similar letter after the Lok Sabha elections.

Tensions in UP BJP Post-Elections

Patel's letter highlighted that posts reserved for SC/ST and OBC candidates were vacant and reverting to the general category. Her letter was publicised, adding weight to Maurya's recent statement, "Organization is bigger than the government," at a state BJP executive meeting in Lucknow.

Other leaders have also voiced concerns about the UP government's functioning post-elections. Sanjay Nishad, a BJP ally and Cabinet Minister, accused officials of being unresponsive and "misusing bulldozers."

Nishad, along with Om Prakash Rajbhar, head of the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party and Minister, met with Maurya after the executive meeting. This meeting included party MLAs and leaders of allied parties.

OBC Leaders' Influence

Maurya, Patel, Nishad, and Rajbhar all belong to the OBC community and hold significant influence within their castes. Maurya has deep roots in the BJP and RSS, with involvement in the Ram Mandir movement.

In 2017, when BJP was set to form the government in UP with a landslide victory, Keshav Prasad Maurya was a contender for Chief Minister alongside Yogi Adityanath but settled for Deputy Chief Minister.

Implications of OBC Unity

The current scenario suggests a potential political storm within the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh. Maurya's apparent discord with his government and other OBC leaders' public criticisms raise questions about internal unity.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attributed BJP's victory to "overconfidence," leading to securing only 33 seats in UP. However, Maurya's statement about the organization being larger adds significant political context.

The situation remains dynamic as these developments unfold within the BJP-led NDA government in Uttar Pradesh. The actions of key OBC leaders could have far-reaching implications for the state's political landscape.
