A tragic hit-and-run incident in Lucknow has left a six-year-old child dead and several others injured after a speeding car allegedly driven by a student lost control and rammed into pedestrians on Thursday evening. The incident, which occurred on Kanpur Road, has triggered outrage and renewed concerns over reckless driving and access to vehicles by young drivers.

CCTV captures moment of impact

The accident took place around 6 pm when a Swift Dzire travelling from Lucknow towards Kanpur reportedly went out of control after colliding with a parked two-wheeler. CCTV footage from the area shows the vehicle crashing into a motorcycle with a man seated on it, knocking him to the ground.

After the initial collision, the car veered towards the roadside and ploughed into several people standing near a chaat stall. The impact caused panic in the area as pedestrians tried to move away to avoid being struck.

Police said the vehicle then went on to hit other vehicles, including an e-rickshaw and an auto-rickshaw, leaving multiple people injured.

Victims of the crash

The car struck several individuals present near the stall and roadside, including women and children. Those affected in the incident include:

• Dikshant, a six-year-old child who later died
• Sadhana Patel and her mother Meena Devi
• A 12-year-old boy identified as Armaan
• E-rickshaw driver Awadh Bihari

All injured victims were rushed to a nearby hospital by local residents. While most of the injured are reported to be in stable condition and undergoing treatment, Dikshant suffered critical injuries and was declared dead after being referred to a community health centre. He was a Class 2 student at Kendriya Vidyalaya.

An auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were also damaged in the crash.

Initial police findings suggest that the car became uncontrollable after a tyre burst. The driver allegedly lost control soon after hitting a parked two-wheeler, leading to the chain of collisions.

Investigators said the accused and a female companion had attended a farewell event earlier in the day and were travelling together when the accident occurred. Following the crash, both allegedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.
Local residents and bystanders immediately stepped in to help the injured and alerted the police.

The accused, identified as Gaurav Singh, was later arrested by police after initially escaping from the spot. The vehicle involved in the crash has been seized for examination.
