Badaun gangrape case: UP govt sends reports to Home Ministry; promises fast track court

Home Minister Rajnath Singh was today briefed by officials on the outrageous incident on Tuesday when the two teenaged girl were gangraped and their bodies hung from a tree.
Singh was informed that the UP government has sent a report to the Home Ministry, saying some persons involved in the crime have been arrested and all guilty will be punished, according to official sources. The state government also given details about the incident.
The sources said Home Ministry officials were in regular touch with the state authorities and have asked them to ensure all those involved in the case were brought to book at the earliest.
Akhilesh Yadav calls incident "unfortunate"
Meanwhile, UP government promised to set up a fast track court to punish the culprits. Terming the gangrape and murder as "unfortunate", UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today ordered the police to arrest all the accused immediately and said a fast-track court be constituted to ensure that they were duly punished.
He also sanctioned financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims. Akhilesh, who was reviewing the progress of the case with DGP AL Banerjee and other senior officials, said such incidents should not be repeated at any cost, according to official sources.
Coming down heavily on the police, he said a fast-track court should be constituted to ensure that the accused get due punishment, the sources said. He also said that the families of the victims should be given security as well as all necessary help, they added.
As outrage spread over the incident, the UP authorities today sacked two constables even as a third accused in the case was nabbed. Of the seven wanted in the case, three (policeman Sarvesh Yadav and brothers Pappu and Awadhesh Yadav) have been arrested so far, Badaun SP Atul Kumar Saxena has said. Sarvesh and Pappu were arrested yesterday. Four others Urvesh Yadav (brother of Pappu and Awadhesh), policeman Chhatrapal Yadav and two unidentified persons are at large.
The two girls, who were cousins and aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of May 27 and their bodies were found hanging from a mango tree in the village in Ushait area the next morning.
The postmortem report of the two girls confirmed that they were raped before murder, according to Saxena. Sarvesh and Chhatrapal have been booked under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC, while the three brothers --Pappu, Awadhesh and Urvesh-- and two others have been charged with Sections 302 (murder) and 376 (rape) of IPC.
