The Rituals of Raksha Bandhan
Sisters tie a sacred thread called Rakhi on their brothers' wrists as a symbol of love and protection during Raksha Bandhan. They also perform aarti and apply tilak on their brothers' foreheads. In return, brothers vow to protect their sisters from harm and support them in times of need.
This tradition has evolved over time. Nowadays, not only do sisters tie Rakhis on their brothers' wrists, but brothers also tie Rakhis on their sisters' wrists. Additionally, sisters may perform this ritual among themselves. Gifts are exchanged between siblings as a token of affection.
The festival holds deep symbolic significance and strengthens familial bonds. It’s a day filled with joy, love, and mutual respect among siblings.
