Historical Story of Kartika Purnima

The tradition of grand celebrations for Kartika Purnima in Varanasi began in 1985 at Panchganga Ghat. Since then, 21 Brahmin priests and 24 women perform the grand Ganga Aarti from Ravidas Ghat to Rajghat. This event draws thousands of tourists and devotees each year.

On this day, other events like the Jain light festival and Guru Nanak Jayanti are also observed. Martyrs are remembered with wreaths offered at Amar Jawan Jyoti at Dashashwamedh Ghat and Rajendra Prasad Ghat. The Ganga Seva Samiti organises this event, adding a patriotic significance to it.
