According to legend, Goddess Jagadhatri is an incarnation of Devi Durga. On Shukla Navami in the Bengali month of Ashwin, Devi appears as the ten-handed Goddess Durga. In the month of Karthik on the same day, she presents herself as the four-handed Devi Jagadhatri, symbolising a caring mother.

In Bankura district, she is known as Boroma. On Shukla Navami tithi in Kartika month, Trikalin Puja is performed. On the eleventh day, the idol is immersed in Padmapukur with Dhunuchi dance and ancient Bengali dhank procession.
