Belgium is a small country with a rich history and culture. It is home to two main language communities, the Dutch-speaking Flemish and the French-speaking Walloons. There is also a small German-speaking community. This diversity is reflected in the country's national day, celebrated on July 21st.

Belgium's National Day commemorates its independence from the Netherlands in 1830. On this day, Belgians celebrate their country's hard-won independence and the unity of its people. The day is marked by parades, festivals, and other celebrations throughout the country.

The national flag has three colours: black, yellow, and red. These are the colours of the heraldry of the Duke of Brabant: a yellow lion, with red claws and a red tongue on a black background. Today, these colours are represented in three vertical stripes.

To start the festivities, the royal family hosts a parade at the Place Royale in Brussels. Citizens can watch impressive folklore performances and musical concerts. At night, the midnight sky is illuminated with a breathtaking fireworks display to end the celebrations.

One of the most popular traditions on National Day is the "Te Deum" mass, held in Brussels. This service is attended by the King and Queen of Belgium, as well as other government officials and dignitaries. After the mass, there is a military parade through the streets of Brussels.

Another popular tradition is the "flower carpet" in Brussels. This carpet is made up of thousands of flowers and depicts a different scene each year. The carpet is usually on display for a few days before National Day.

Belgians also celebrate their national day by eating traditional foods such as "moules-frites" (mussels with fries) and "carbonnade flamande" (beef stew). There are also many fireworks displays and concerts held throughout the country.

Belgium's National Day is a time for Belgians to come together and celebrate their country's independence and unity. It is also a time to reflect on the country's rich history and culture.
