Ahoi Ashtami: Celebrating Maternal Love And Devotion for Children's Prosperity

Ahoi Ashtami is a cherished Hindu festival celebrated by married women for the well-being and long life of their children. This festival, observed on 24th October 2024, is a symbol of maternal love and devotion. Women eagerly await this day each year to express their love and prayers for their kids.

On Ahoi Ashtami, women observe a day-long fast without water, known as nirjala fast. The fast is broken only after sighting the stars and offering Arghya. This ritual is performed for the prosperity and health of their children. The festival strengthens the bond between mothers and their kids.

Ahoi Mata and Goddess Parvati are the primary deities worshipped during Ahoi Ashtami. Women pray to these goddesses for the long life and prosperity of their children. The prayers are an essential part of the day's rituals.

Key Rituals of Ahoi Ashtami

The main ritual involves women observing a nirjala fast throughout the day. In the evening, they narrate the story of Ahoi Mata while staying under the stars' view. After worshipping the stars with symbolic offerings, they apply tilak on their children's foreheads.

Why Ahoi Ashtami is Celebrated

Ahoi Ashtami is celebrated by Hindu women to seek blessings for their children's well-being. It is a day dedicated to maternal love and devotion. Women pray for their sons' and daughters' long, healthy, and prosperous lives.

Kathaa Associated with Ahoi Ashtami

The story behind Ahoi Ashtami involves a moneylender's family. His daughter accidentally killed a porcupine's baby while collecting soil. Syayu Mata cursed her to be childless. The youngest daughter-in-law took the curse upon herself.

Whenever she had a child, it died in seven days. On advice from a priest, she served a black cow daily and saved Garun's children from a snake. Her kindness led Syayu Mata to withdraw the curse, blessing her with seven sons after worshipping Ahoi Mata.
