The horrible incident occurred in Hingalganj area of North 24 Parganas district of the state. The teacher worked in a local school affiliated to the Belur Ramkrishna Mission. Her husband is an employee with the Mission and their only son studies in a college.

The victim was known for her punctuality but when she didn't turn up on Monday, her students informed the authorities and they were asked to go to the teacher's house to bring her to school. They entered the house through the kitchen door and saw their beloved teacher's battered body lying. They then screamed in horror, drawing attention of the neighbours.

According to witnesses, the body bore injury marks, including those of biting. The school authorities and local people alleged it to be a case of gangrape and murder. The victim's husband lodged a complaint with the police though the latter said the conclusion can be drawn only after the probe is complete.
