TMC minister drags President's name into Saradha scam

transport minister Madan Mitra on Sunday dragged the name of President Pranab Mukherjee into the Saradha chit fund scam, accusing the latter's children of receiving money from the Ponzi scheme that got exposed last year, creating a ripple in West Bengal as well as national politics. Thousands of people lost their life savings in the scam.

Mitra said the enforcement directorate (ED) should reveal how much money Mukherjee's son and daughter had taken. The ED on Sunday summoned Arpita Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate in the ongoing Lok Sabha election, in connection to the scam.

The owner of Saradha, Sudipta Sen, was arrested in April last year while Kunal Ghosh, a journalist-cum-politician who is also a Rajya Sabha MP of the TMC, was arrested in connection to the scam in November last year. Recently, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Sen's wife and son and also interrogated his daughter-in-law.

Mitra said the ED should reveal how much money did the President's kin took

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday, saying his wife and son should also be caught for having deals with Saradha.

On Sunday, Mitra, who was speaking at a rally in Burdwan, also slammed the Reserve Bank for giving license to Saradha.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday attacked the TMC government over the Saradha scam during a rally in Malda, provoking a retaliation from the state leaders.
