RG Kar Ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh's 'Luxurious' Bunglow Raided By ED Sleuths

An ongoing Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into financial irregularities at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has led investigators to a two-story bungalow in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

This luxurious property, named "Sangeetasandip Villa," belongs to former RG Kar principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh and his wife, Sangeeta Ghosh.

It is surrounded by vast vacant land, and locals allege that Ghosh had been buying large tracts of land in the area.

They also claim that "several farmhouses had been constructed in the area apparently on the instructions of Dr. Sandip Ghosh."

The ED's raids, part of a broader investigation into Ghosh's tenure as principal, were conducted at multiple locations, including his residence and properties of his relatives.

Ghosh is currently in CBI custody, having been arrested with three associates in connection with the corruption case earlier this month.

The case against him stems from allegations made by Dr. Akhtar Ali, a former deputy superintendent at RG Kar, who accused Ghosh of "wastage of government funds, nepotism, and irregularities in vendor selection and recruitment."

Ali also hinted that the corruption might be linked to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor, who was allegedly aware of the misconduct.

On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed Ghosh's plea challenging a Calcutta High Court order that rejected his request to be added as a party to the corruption case.

The court ruled that "as an accused, Ghosh has no legal right to intervene in the matter."
