Retd engineer dies in freak lift mishap in Kolkata
A 76-year-old man died in a freak lift accident on Friday afternoon after he fell down from the shaft to the first floor.
Kolkata, March 4: In an bizarre situation, a retired engineer died in a freak lift mishap at Kasba residential complex after he fell down from the shaft in Kolkata on Friday afternoon. According to police, the man identified as Rabindranath Chakraborty, 76, a retired engineer from Broder Roads Organisation got ready to go for a walk. As he pushed the lift button from the third floor and waited for a few minutes for the door to open.
The lift door opened but the man fell down to the first floor from the shaft. Police sources said that the door was open but the lift was on the first floor.

The victim was immediately rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The police also added that a complaint was not registered but they are looking into the matter. The police added that the lift door was designed to open even when the lift is on other floor.
