Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Is Mamata Shielding Culprits? 5 Key Questions

The demands made by TMC leaders, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, following the rape and murder of a woman trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College Hospital in Kolkata, have raised serious questions about the West Bengal government.

Mamata Banerjee is not only the Chief Minister but also the Health Minister and holds the Home Department.

This means she is responsible for the crime committed against the woman doctor and for the alleged violent mob attack on the hospital on 14-15 August.

From whom is Mamata Banerjee demanding answers? The question arises against whom is the Chief Minister protesting and from whom is she seeking answers? She is directly responsible, starting from the rape of the woman doctor to her brutal murder. Is the demand made by Mamata Banerjee from the CBI a joke on the law?

The protest by TMC under Mamata’s leadership on 16 August also raises questions on her understanding of being Chief Minister for 14 years and being a minister at the Centre before that.

According to media reports, the victim's parents have told CBI that for the past few weeks, their daughter was under pressure that she did not even want to go to the hospital. They suspect it is a case of gang rape and are hoping for the arrest of other culprits as well. Was the Bengal Police close to completing the investigation or was it busy suppressing it?

They have even said that if accused Sanjay Roy is involved in this crime, he was acting on someone’s instructions. They say that the hospital tried to completely hush up the matter.

When the parents reached the hospital, they were prevented from seeing their daughter’s body for three hours. The question is, on whose instructions was all this happening?

There is a possibility that TMC people were also involved in the attack by the mob at RG Kar Medical College. But the Chief Minister did not hesitate to blame opposition parties for her government's failure.

The fact is that the attack happened and Mamata's government failed to prevent it. Even protesting doctors claim it was done to erase evidence from the seminar hall so that no crucial clue reaches CBI.

According to media reports, some attackers are being linked to TMC councillors in CCTV footage. From reports so far, there are many reasons to claim this is not just a rape case, nor does it seem like only one criminal is involved. Then why is Mamata politicising it after it goes to CBI?

Key Questions for Bengal Government

The Bengal government should answer a few questions. For instance, why was the then-principal Sandeep Ghosh, who called trainee’s death a suicide despite her horrific condition, protected? Why was he sent to another hospital in plum position despite resigning? Serious allegations of corruption are being levelled against him.

Why was no action taken against Ghosh? Why did he reveal victim's name and identity in press conference? Why didn't the police take action against him then? They immediately started chasing down people who posted on social media.

Why were family members prevented from seeing victim’s body for hours? On whose instructions were they stopped? What was happening at crime scene that fear of it coming out haunted them?

Investigation Concerns

Why was there need for repair work in Chest Department during investigation? It is noteworthy that victim was associated with this department and it was in seminar hall of this department she was allegedly gang-raped and then brutally put to death.

Is arrested accused just a scapegoat? Is this bigger incident than just normal rape and murder case? Is it all done under conspiracy, and is arrested accused just a pawn or small pawn in this crime? Is medicine mafia behind incident? If so, who is behind this mafia?

Mamata Banerjee said, "The CBI has to complete investigation and help in hanging culprit by Sunday (August 18). Our Kolkata Police had completed 90% of investigation."

The question arises: under which law of country is this possible? Is Mamata really serious about getting justice for perpetrators of this chilling incident with woman doctor?

The demands made by TMC leaders after such a horrific incident have raised more questions than answers about West Bengal government's role.

The involvement of various parties and alleged suppression attempts make it crucial for authorities to ensure justice without political interference.
