Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Did Accused Sanjay Roy Plead Not Guilty In Court?

Sanjay Roy, the prime accused in the Kolkata doctor rape and murder case that took place in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, turned emotional in court on Friday, claiming his innocence.

The CBI presented him before the court and requested permission to conduct a polygraph test on Roy and other suspects involved in the case.

The lie detection test can only be conducted with the consent of both the court and the suspect.

When the judge asked Roy why he was agreeing for the polygraph test, he reportedly broke down and said, "I haven't committed any crime. I'm being framed. Maybe this test will prove that."

The court granted permission for the polygraph test and sent Roy to 14 days of judicial custody.

The court also allowed polygraph tests on the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, and five others connected to the case, including four doctors who had dinner with the deceased doctor on the night of the incident.

The horrific crime occurred on August 9, when the trainee doctor was raped and murdered inside a seminar hall on the third floor of the chest department at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Multiple lacerations and wounds were found on her body. Roy was arrested a day later after being seen entering the building around the estimated time of the crime. His Bluetooth headphones were found near the crime scene, and several pornographic clips were reportedly discovered on his mobile phone.

The incident sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests within the medical community across India.

Resident doctor associations in most government hospitals protested for 11 days, halting all elective services, including OPDs, non-emergency surgeries, and diagnostics.

The strike was called off on Thursday after the Supreme Court intervened and requested doctors to resume their duties.
