Kolkata Doctor's Diary Reveals Heartbreaking Entry Hours Before Rape-Murder

The father of the trainee doctor, who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar hospital, shared insights from her last diary entry.

He mentioned that his daughter was a diligent student, dedicating 10-12 hours daily to her studies.

She penned this diary entry on the day she died, before heading for her night shift at the hospital. The father described their shattered lives and highlighted the sacrifices made to support her dream of becoming a doctor. He remains hopeful for justice, believing that punishing the culprit might offer some solace.

Incident details

Initially, the family was informed that she had committed suicide. However, it later emerged that she had been raped and then murdered. The woman was resting in the seminar hall after having meals with colleagues when the incident occurred between 3 am and 5 am.

The autopsy revealed severe injuries: bleeding from her mouth, eyes, and private parts, along with a deep wound indicating genital torture. Also, her throat's cartilage was broken due to throttling before being smothered to death.

Protests and investigation

Medical students have been protesting against this heinous crime by shouting slogans and holding posters. The police have arrested a civic volunteer in connection with the crime. The CBI has now taken over the probe to ensure a thorough investigation.

The victim's father recalled his daughter's hard work and determination to achieve her goals despite numerous challenges. He expressed his hope for justice while acknowledging that nothing could fill the void left by her loss.
