Kolkata-class Destroyer Ship leaks gas; One naval officer dies

Mumbai, March 7: One Naval officer dies and two officers injured as INS Kolkata leaks gas in the ship.

The mishap took place at Mazgaon docks, Mumbai. The Project-15A ship was to be handed over to the navy in a few months.

The ship was under construction and according to reports,the officer may have been killed due to a malfunction in the firefighting system in the engine room of the ship.

Sources said the officer may have inhaled large quantities of carbon dioxide.

The officer, a commander, died aboard the yet to be commissioned Project 15A destroyer. The warship is one of the most advanced vessels made in india and is fitted with state of the art weaponry and sensors.

The warship in concern here is one of the three Kolkata-class destroyers. It is one of the most advanced ships built by India.

This is the 11th accident in the past seven and a half months after the INS Sindhurakshak mishap.
