Husband throws acid over wife's 'extra-marital affair'

The accused Gautam Mandal has been detained for the incident which occurred inside the government-run Habra Hospital in the district.
"Mandal who had come to see his ailing son admitted to Habra Hospital, threw acid at his wife. Along with his wife, two other women including a nurse sustained serious burn injuries," said police.
"Prime facie it appears Mandal attacked his wife suspecting she is having an extra-marital affair," added police.
Despite a ban on sale of acids, the state has witnessed several incidents of vitriolage in the recent past.
According to Acid Survivors Foundation India (ASFI), a non-government organisation, 83 acid attacks were reported in the state between 2006 and 2013 resulting in injuries to at least 121 people, most of them women.
