Labhpur gangrape: Bengal court sends 13 people to 20 years of jail

), Sept 20: A court in West Bengal on Saturday sentenced 13 people to 20 years of imprisonment over the

of a tribal girl at Labhpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal in January this year.

The culprits belonged to a kangaroo court which had ordered the gangrape of the girl as a punishment for having a relationship with a man belonging to another community.

The woman's family was asked to play a huge fine for her relation with the man and when the family said it couldn't do so, the village headman ordered the gangrape. At least 10 men allegedly raped the 20-year-old woman.

The victim named 13 people in the first information report filed in Labhpur police station.
