As counting trends in the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 continued to favour the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), celebrations across party offices became more vibrant and symbolic.

What began with jhalmuri in Kolkata has now turned into a full traditional Bengali feast, with fish curry taking centre stage.

BJP Prepares Grand Feast at Salt Lake Office

After the earlier jhalmuri celebrations, BJP workers are now preparing a large meal at the party's state headquarters in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The kitchen is already busy, with cooking nearing completion.

The menu reflects a traditional Bengali spread, including rice, masoor dal (red lentils), Katla fish curry, mixed vegetables, chutney, papad, and sweets. The choice of food highlights local culture and adds a festive touch to the political moment.

Early Trends Boost Celebration Mood

The celebrations come as early counting trends show the BJP leading in a large number of seats. Out of 293 constituencies, the party was ahead in more than 180 seats, with some updates even showing leads crossing 190.

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was trailing in comparison. However, officials from the Election Commission have not yet announced final results, and counting is still underway.

Jhalmuri Symbolism Continues

Earlier in the day, BJP workers-especially women supporters-celebrated by carrying cones of jhalmuri and singing "jhal legeche." The snack became a symbolic part of the celebrations, linking culture with political messaging.

One worker said, "The Prime Minister connects with common people. He had jhalmuri, and now Didi is feeling the 'jhal'. People have given their reply."

The reference was aimed at earlier political remarks and campaign narratives, turning everyday food into a political symbol.

Voices from the Ground: Safety Takes Priority

Some BJP supporters used the moment to highlight issues they felt were important during the elections. Referring to government schemes, one worker said, "We do not want Lakshmir Bhandar. We want safety and security in West Bengal. Women are not safe here."

Such views reflect how concerns around law and order, especially women's safety, became a key talking point in the election campaign.

Political Satire Adds Energy to the Scene

The election atmosphere has also seen humour and satire. In Delhi, social media influencer Ratan Ranjan dressed up as Mamata Banerjee and visited the BJP headquarters carrying jhalmuri.

Through mimicry, he joked about the changing political situation and entertained party workers. His performance showed how political commentary is increasingly mixing with entertainment during elections.

Record Voter Turnout Reflects Public Interest

The elections also witnessed a record voter turnout. Phase I recorded over 93% voting, while Phase II saw more than 91%, bringing the total turnout to around 92.47%.
This high participation shows that people across West Bengal were deeply engaged in the electoral process, making the results even more significant.

BJP Leaders Express Confidence

Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence in forming the government. He said the BJP is likely to cross 180 seats and take power in the state.
