Kolkata, Feb 21: Former chief minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Thursday took a dig at veteran activist Anna Hazare's showering praise on current chief minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee.

Speaking at an event, the CPI(M) leader asked: "Does Anna Hazare know how the state of West Bengal is being run? On whose advice is he acting?"

Bhattacharjee also mentioned the huge turnout at the recent rally of the Left Front in Kolkata and said the party should make use of the people's support despite facing intimidation from the ruling party. "We need to form a government at the Centre which will look after the interest of the common people," Bhattacharjee said.

On whose advice is Anna Hazare acting, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee asked

Bhattacharjee, who took over as the chief minister from the late Left patriarch Jyoti Basu in 2000 and continued till his party's humiliating defeat in the assembly elections of 2011, also criticised the Mamata Banerjee government on the occasion.

Meanwhile, a number of heavyweights in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh joined the TMC on Thursday. In West Bengal also, people from other parties have been joining the party.
