West Bengal: Class IX girl student gangraped, 4 minors held

Jalpaiguri (WB), Apr 15: A Class IX student was allegedly gangraped by four minors at a deserted park near river Karala in Jalpaiguri district, police said on Wednesday.

The girl, who has identified the four accused, told her family and the interrogators that she was taken to the abandoned Children's Park compound by the four on Sunday evening and was given drug-mixed food, a senior police officer said.

As she felt drowsy she was gangraped by the four and subsequently lost consciousness.

She was later found by her family members on Monday morning, the girl's mother, who works as a domestic help in the locality in Jalpaiguri town told the police in her complaint lodged yesterday, the officer said.

The girl was later taken to the hospital for medical test and the report was awaited, the officer said, adding the four were charged with sexual offence by a sessions court yesterday which ordered two day jail remand for them and asked that they be produced in a juvenile court on Thursday.

"We are investigating the incident and further action will be initiated on receipt of the medical report of the girl," SP Abharu Rabindranathan said.
