Kolkata, Jun 15: Denying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's allegation that BJP was involved in the killing of the CEO of the North Brook jute mill in Hooghly district on Sunday, the party accused the state government of failing to maintain law and order.

Bengal BJP general secretary Shamik Bhattacharya said the Chief Minister should stop making such sweeping statements.

"Mamata Banerjee should stop making such statements. Otherwise people henceforth won't take her comments seriously. It is really hilarious to hear such allegations from the Chief Minister of the state," Bhattacharya told PTI.

Banerjee earlier condemned the killing of H K Maheswari, CEO of North Brook jute mill, at Bhadreswar in Hooghly district, describing it as an act of the CPI(M) and BJP goons, while noting that there was no Trinamool Congress union in the mill.

Bhattacharya accused Banerjee, who also holds the Home ministry, of failing to maintain law and order, saying the incident of killing of an industrialist would have an adverse impact on the state. It also showed that law and order had completely broken down in the state.

"The Chief Minister, who is also Home Minister, should think about her own ministry before undertaking a reshuffle of the ministry as a whole as she has failed miserably to perform her duty," Bhattacharya said.
