Kolkata, Oct 21: Calcutta University professor Chinmay Guha, who also served as the vice-chancellor of Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, has been awarded the Knighthood of Arts and Letters by the French government.

Guha will share the prestigious civilian award with Keith Richards of Rolling Stones and filmmaker Quentin Tarantino.

This is the second time that Guha ihas been awarded knighthood by the French government. He was earlier given knighthood by the French education ministry. The fact that an Indian has been awarded knighthood by two different ministries of the French government also makes it a rare feat for Guha.

Born in 1958, Guha is a noted scholar, linguist and essayist. He taught French at Alliance Francaise and was the director of publications in the French embassy in New Delhi.
