Bengali actor and state women's panel member joins BJP
Kolkata, Feb 5: "I was feeling suffocated in the TMC (Trinamool Congress). I did not join that party for politics. I joined it to do some work," Bengali actor Locket Chatterjee on Thursday said while joining the BJP in the presence of state party chief Rahul Sinha.
The 42-year-old actor, who was appointed a member of the state women's commission by the Mamata Banerjee government in June last year, said the mood in the TMC was becoming one marked by insecurity and suspicion created mainly by the Saradha chit fund scam. She said the BJP is a party which is doing a great work and she found it suitable to achieve her goals by being its member.

Sinha said Chatterjee was one of those individuals who refused the toe the ruling party's line despite being its member.
Recently, singer Kumar Shanu and Bengali actor Roopa Ganguly joined the BJP. Veteran actor George Baker and singer Bappi Lahiri joined the saffron party ahead of the Lok Sabha election last year.
