Bengal polls: Was Madan Mitra planning to go to hospital to control election?
Kolkata, April 25: Tainted Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Madan Mitra fell ill on the eve of the fourth phase of the Assembly election in West Bengal and as teh news spread that the former transport minister was about to be taken to the hospital from the Alipor Central Jail where he is now, the Opposition felt apprehensive.

Leaders from the Opposition, including Mitra's opponent candidates in Kamarhati where he is contestinthis year from behind the bars, appealed to the Election Commission (EC) not to allow mobile and Internet access to Mitra in case he is shifted to the hospital. However, the Opposition was assured after the authorities of the SSKM Hospital where Mitra was supposed to be taken said his situation was stable and did not require to be admitted in hospital.
The Opposition alleged that Mitra's camp was planning to get him transferred to the hospital from where the TMC leader could control polling in his constituency in North 24 Parganas. But the TMC decided not to go ahead with the plan as it soon as it was broken in the media.
Mitra is accused in the Saradha chit-fund scam and was also shown receiving money in a sting operation conducted by a news agency.
