Bengal polls: Mamata's first rally in her constituency a big hit
Kolkata, April 25: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee brought out her first rally in Bhabanipur, the constituency from where she will contest this Assembly election on April 30 (Saturday) and the party leadership was more than elated with the response it received.
During the rally, women supporters were seen wearing saris with TMC symbol imprinted on them and carrying party flags and umbrellas bearing the party symbol. the supporters were also seen carrying balloons decorated with TMC colours.
Big cut-outs of Banerjee and the playing of the ruling party's victory song in the background, showering of flowers on the TMC chief and the chief minister's canvassing support over a microphone---the ambience made one feel that all the apprehension about an upset in this constituency is just a myth.
Being the biggest and also the only face of the party, Banerjee is busy criss-crossing the state and had not been able to campaign in her own constituency. Her local leaders have been given the responsibility to carry out the campiagning. But Mamata Banerjee made it clear that she would campaign in four wards of the constituency on the last Sunday of April and she did it in style.
Although the Opposition leaders ridiculed her seeking votes during the campaign, saying Banerjee has never been seen appealing to voters to back her in her own constituency ever.
Banerjee will take on the Left-Congress alliance's candidate Deepa Dasmunshi and BJP's Chandra Bose, a kin of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, in the high-profile contest on April 30.
