Kolkata Metro's Blue Line experienced a service disruption on Thursday morning, causing inconvenience for commuters during peak hours due to unscheduled preventive maintenance, with limited services resuming after approximately 40 minutes, and this followed a similar disruption on January 20th.

The interruption added to growing concerns among daily passengers over frequent technical issues on the busy route.

Services Disrupted During Morning Rush

According to Metro officials, services on the Blue Line were halted at around 7.35 am and resumed at 8.17 am. During the nearly 40-minute disruption, only limited train services were operated on two separate stretches to manage passenger movement.

Trains ran between Maidan and Dakshineswar on one end, while services were available between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar in Tollygunj and Shahid Khudiram at Birji on the other.

While this arrangement helped ease crowding to some extent, many office-goers still faced delays and inconvenience during the morning rush.

Metro Cites Preventive Maintenance Work

In an official statement, Kolkata Metro said the disruption was caused by "unscheduled but preventive maintenance work." However, authorities did not clarify what led to the sudden maintenance during peak hours, leaving many commuters dissatisfied.

The Blue Line, India's oldest metro corridor, has seen several service disruptions in recent months. Frequent technical snags and interruptions have raised concerns among passengers who depend on the line for their daily travel.

Similar Disruption Earlier This Week

This was not the first incident in recent days. On January 20, services on the same corridor were affected during the evening rush hour after a man allegedly jumped onto the tracks at Masterda Surya Sen station in Bansdroni.

Following that incident, truncated services were operated between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Dakshineswar stations in both directions. Normal services on the full Dakshineswar-Shahid Khudiram stretch were restored by 7.09 pm, according to officials.

With repeated disruptions, commuters are now urging metro authorities to ensure smoother operations and better communication during service interruptions.
