Kochi police booked a 12-year-old boy for impregnating a girl 2 months short of turning 18 years recently. A case was also registered against the hospital where the girl delivered after hospital authorities failed to inform the police immediately.
The 12-year-old has been booked under sec 75 of Juvenile Justice Act for impregnating the girl 2 months before she turned 18 years old. The police allege that the hospital breached POCSO act by failing to inform them of the case immediately. The hospital however claims that the girl was 18 years old when she approached them and delivered her baby and hence not a minor.

The hospital authorities added that the childline was informed as soon as they learnt that a 12-year-old had fathered the child. "The young mother's relatives told us that a 12-year-old had fathered the child and we alerted the childline accordingly. All documents and records related to the young mother was also handed over", said a source from the hospital.
The childline alerted the local Kalamassery police after receiving information from the hospital leading to a case being registered against the minor boy. The young mother's grandparents, in a sitting with Child Welfare Commission, declared that they were not ready to bring up the new born. The baby girl is now under the case of CWC.
