Kerala stray dogs culling: Rs 500 per dog for every killer!
Kochi, Sep 30: The dog culling issue in Kerala is taking new turns every day.
Four people have been arrested in Cochin for allegedly supporting and killing stray dogs.
The arrest took place following a complaint filed by the Society of Prevention of Cruelty against Animals.
Social activist Jose Maveli, founder and chairman of Janaseva Sisubhavan, OM Joy and Ranjan were arrested by Police for forming and supporting an outfit called 'Stray Dogs Eradication Group'. The details of the fourth person is not revealed.
They were taken into custody under sections 428 and 429 of the IPC and section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. They were let out on bail in the evening.
Post-mortem of the dogs were performed by veterinary surgeons following the demand by the Society of Prevention of Cruelty against Animals.
In a comment given to a news channel, MJ Shaji, a 43-year-old autorickshaw driver, who was arrested, told that he killed 130 dogs by feeding them poisoned meat.
At the same time Jose Maveli, in an interview to a news channel, said that he has offered Rs 500 per dog for every killer.
He added that they have funds to ensure culling of 1,000 dogs.
