Kerala Muncipal Council to impose fee at dog owners

Muvattupuzha, July 29: People all over the world are protesting against the culling of stray dogs by the Kerala government. [Stray dogs culling: Boycott Kerala campaign gains momentum]

When researchers claim that culling of dogs doesn't help in the population control of dogs, there are another set of Kerala people, who are frustrated with rabid dogs.

Now, the Muvattupuzha Muncipal council has imposed a fee for the pet dog owners within the muncipal area. The dog owners have to pay an amount of Rs 300 to the municipality.

Apart from the fee, dog owners will have to submit a photograph of him/her along with the dog.

In addition to these conditions, an officer from the health wing of municipality will visit the owner's house for inspection.

During the inspection, if more dogs are found without license then fine will be imposed on the dog owner. Issuing health card for dogs are also into consideration.

Earlier the Municipality has planned to sterilize all the stray dogs, but the project got cancelled owing to the lack of funds.

The constant pressure from the part of the people forced the concerned authorities to take necessary steps.
