Kerala: Girl attacked for resisting molestation attempt; police yet to make an arrest
Kochi, Nov 12: In a state which has been witnessing huge protests against moral policing and crimes against women, an 18 year-old girl was attacked and burnt with a hot iron rod and cigarettes by two men for resisting molestation.
Shockingly,
the
police
haven't
arrested
anyone
so
far
in
the
case,
although
they
have
identified
the
culprits.
The
miscreants
broke
into
the
girl,
Neethu's
home
in
Kerala
and
attacked
her.
The girl was reportedly harassed by the conductor of a bus she travelled daily. At one point, he gave her his number and asked her to call when nobody was at home. He even said that he would ‘pay' her. The girl, at this point, couldn't take it any more and she and her husband confronted him. The conductor and a friend of his attacked her. The men burned her with a hot iron rod and cigarettes.
A Newsminute report said that according to the girl's husband, no arrests were made so far was as the culprit's father was a retired Sub Inspector. Although the couple informed the police on Saturday (November 8) afternoon, right after the incident happened, the police has not taken an action yet.
The girl had been hospitalized as she suffered severe wounds on her neck and hands. She has now been discharged and is recuperating at her home.
It seems even Kerala, where literacy rate is high compared to rest of India, is no safe place for a woman.
