It is a very cruel thing: KK Shailaja on Kerala 'human sacrifice' case

Kochi, Oct 12: Former Kerala Health Minister and Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader KK Shailaja termed the shocking incident of human sacrifice deaths surfaced in Kerala as cruel.

"It is a very cruel thing. We are astonished that in a society which achieved this kind of education and empowerment, this is happening. It is because superstitions and false beliefs are still there in society," Shailaja told reporters.

"The duty of scientists, rulers and society is to inculcate scientific temper in society but that is not fulfilled in India. Superstition & black magic still exists in several parts of India. In Kerala, it is not rampant but here also some superstitions are there," she added.

In a case of suspected human sacrifice, two women were allegedly murdered to address financial issues and bring prosperity to the lives of an accused couple.

Meanwhile, the three accused in Kerala's 'human sacrifice' case have been remanded to 14-day judicial custody till October 26. They are facing the allegations of sacrificing two women to settle the financial issues and bring prosperity in their own lives.
