Young US singer shot soon after show; killer shoots himself, too
Washington, June 11: American singer and The Voice star Christine Grammie died after being shot following a concert in Orlando in the US on Friday (June 10).
The 22-year-old singer's publicist Heather Weiss announced this in a statement to the country's media on Saturday (June 11).
"It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord," the statement said.
Orlando Police said Grimme's brother took on the shooter after the latter shot Grimmie following a show at The Plaza Live. The killer also shot himself.
NBC News said the ill-fated singer was signing autographs along with members of the band---Before You Exit---when the tragedy occurred.
The shooter reportedly had two guns on his person at the time of the shooting.
Sources in Orlando Police said it was not yet known whether the shooter was Grimmie's friend or one of her crazy fans who followed her on the social media.
Only the singer was reportedly injured in the shooting.
Grimmie was a contestant of The Voice singing competition on its sixth season in 2014. She finished third in the contest.
