Yoga Day celebrated in Egypt

Cairo, June 22: More than 100 yoga enthusiasts gathered and practiced yogic exercises at a ground here to mark the International Yoga Day.

"We have noticed strong growth in the practice of yoga in Egypt over the last year, both in popularity and in the expertise of yogis," Sanjay Bhattacharyya, India's ambassador to Egypt, said on Tuesday night.

"We are proud of Egypt's support of IDY (the International Day of Yoga). This has encouraged us to reach out wider to students and other groups and to host the event in a large public park," media quoted him as saying.

The UN has designated June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
