World's Oldest Dog, Bobi, Passes Away At Age 31

Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, who held the prestigious title of the world's oldest dog, has sadly passed away at the remarkable age of 31 years and 165 days on Saturday, 22nd October. Bobi's Guinness World Record achievement came to a peaceful end at his home in Portugal.

The news of Bobi's passing was shared on social media by Dr. Karen Becker, a veterinarian who had the pleasure of meeting Bobi during his extraordinary life. She expressed the sentiment felt by many, saying, "Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough for those who loved him."

Bobi's extraordinary journey to becoming the world's oldest living dog and subsequently the oldest dog ever began in February. He broke a century-old record, surpassing Australia's Bluey, who lived to the age of 29 years and five months before passing away in 1939, as per a report in BBC.

The validation of Bobi's grand old age was achieved through the Portuguese government's pet database, managed by the National Union of Veterinarians. This database confirmed his remarkable status as the world's oldest dog.

As Bobi departs, the world awaits the announcement of his successor in the title of the world's oldest living dog. His legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire dog lovers and enthusiasts worldwide.

WHO WAS BOBI AND HOW HE LIVED:
Bobi spent his entire life with the Costa family in the village of Conqueiros, near Portugal's west coast. He was one of four siblings born in an outbuilding. However, while his siblings faced a different fate, the young Bobi managed to escape his intended destiny.

The Costa family's sons, including eight-year-old Leonel Costa at the time, kept Bobi's existence a secret from their parents. Eventually, Bobi was discovered and officially became a cherished part of the family. He shared the same food as the Costas and found comfort in their warm embrace.

Though Bobi faced some health challenges in his later years, including difficulty walking and deteriorating eyesight, he led a relatively trouble-free life. His owner, Leonel Costa, attributed his longevity to the "calm, peaceful environment" in which he thrived.

Bobi's remarkable journey is a testament to the deep bond between humans and their canine companions and serves as a heartwarming reminder of the love and care that dogs bring into our lives.
