New York: Dangling window cleaners rescued from 69th floor of WTC
New York, Nov 13: It was a nerve-wracking sight for New Yorkers when two window cleaners were trapped on a scaffold on the 69th floor of the new World Trade Centre.
The duo was rescued by firefighters who had to saw through a window in order to reach them.
Onlookers were shocked and some even began clicking pictures of the incident on their phones.However they were rescued 90 minutes later after firefighters had to cut through three-layers of glass to reach them.
Though there was no immediate danger to both of them as they were harnessed to the roof, once rescued they were hospitalized and treated for mild hypothermia. Officials however are unable to determine what caused the cables to snap.
The new World Trade Centre opened up recently and has 104 floors. It is the tallest building in the western hemisphere.
As of now, 175 employees of of magazine publisher Conde Nast work in the building and 3000 more employees are expected to move in next year.
