Jaishankar Emphasises Urgent Need to Address Large-Scale Violence at UNGA
The continuation of large-scale violence cannot be accepted, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated. He emphasised the need for "urgent solutions" to the Ukraine war and Gaza conflict. Speaking at the UN General Assembly's 79th session, he highlighted the necessity of addressing these issues promptly.

Jaishankar pointed out that peace and development are interconnected, as consistently upheld by the UN. However, when one is challenged, the other is often neglected. He stressed the importance of recognising this relationship in global affairs.
International Community's Role
The minister underscored the economic impact on vulnerable populations due to ongoing conflicts. He insisted that these conflicts must be resolved, as the world cannot ignore their widespread consequences. The international community's demand for immediate solutions should be acknowledged and acted upon.
Jaishankar also highlighted the UN's role as a symbol of global principles and objectives. Respect for international law and commitments is crucial in maintaining world order. He urged leaders to set a positive example to ensure global security and stability.
Global Security and Stability
He warned against ignoring severe violations of fundamental principles. "If we are to ensure global security and stability, then it is essential that those who seek to lead set the right example. Nor can we countenance egregious violations of our basic tenets," Jaishankar said.
In his address, Jaishankar reiterated that conflicts themselves need resolution. The world cannot remain passive about ongoing violence or its broader effects. The call for urgent solutions by the international community must be recognised and addressed effectively.
The minister's speech emphasised that addressing both peace and development challenges is vital for a stable future. By resolving conflicts and respecting international laws, global security can be achieved, benefiting all nations involved.
