‘Won’t Get Nobel for That’: Trump Doubles Down on India-Pakistan War Remark
In a recent social media post, US President Donald Trump expressed his belief that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in various peace initiatives. He specifically mentioned his role in 'stopping' the conflict between India and Pakistan. Despite being fact-checked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Trump reiterated this claim. His comments came as Pakistan officially nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

The US President lamented that he would not receive the Nobel Peace Prize regardless of his actions. He listed several diplomatic achievements he claimed to have facilitated. Among these was a "wonderful" treaty between Rwanda and Congo, which he announced alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This agreement aimed to end years of conflict marked by significant violence and loss of life.
Trump's Diplomatic Claims
Representatives from Rwanda and Congo were scheduled to visit Washington to sign the treaty documents. Trump described this as a significant day for Africa and the world. The truce was brokered by the US and Qatar, aiming to halt decades-long conflicts that resulted in numerous casualties and displaced many people.
Despite these efforts, Trump expressed frustration over not receiving recognition from the Nobel committee. He stated, "I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do," but added that public acknowledgment was sufficient for him.
Peace Efforts in Other Regions
Trump also highlighted his involvement in other international peace efforts. He mentioned his role in maintaining peace between Serbia and Kosovo, as well as Egypt and Ethiopia. The latter involved issues surrounding an Ethiopian dam affecting the Nile River's water flow.
Additionally, Trump sought recognition for brokering the Abraham Accords during his first term. These agreements aimed to normalise relations between Israel and several Arab nations. Despite these claims, he acknowledged ongoing conflicts like those between Russia/Ukraine and Israel/Iran.
Presidential Campaign Promises
During last year's presidential campaign, Trump portrayed himself as a "peacemaker." He promised to use his negotiation skills to swiftly resolve wars in Ukraine and Gaza. However, both conflicts continue unabated.
Prime Minister Modi had previously clarified that during recent hostilities with Pakistan, there was no discussion of trade or mediation with the US administration. India has consistently stated that the ceasefire was directly negotiated between India and Pakistan at Pakistan's request.
